Welcome to the Dementia Marathon Community and thank you so much for joining us. I’m writing on behalf of myself and my friends. We live in Australia, in Victoria and Tasmania and together we are the co-founders.
We decided we needed this community when, on our different paths, we stumbled across the growing epidemic of dementia in its various forms.
I’ll speak for myself here.
I was shocked when I heard from a very good friend that she had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. And I was even more shocked when I realised how, over time, it disrupted her life, her family’s life and even my own life as her friend.
We had to stop attending the operas we had enjoyed together. We continued to attend concerts together but as the years passed, organising this became increasingly hard. Eventually we weren’t able to attend any live musical events.
Several years later, I’m excited to be a part of starting the Dementia Marathon Community.
Our mission is to provide information and support to family and friends including all those touched with dementia.
I know how lost I felt when I first heard the news - and I wasn’t even the one with the disease! And how I would have loved to have had something like Dementia Marathon to turn to, to learn more about what we were facing and what options I had to make the situation more bearable. I had so many questions … and very few answers.
We don’t want you to have to face a similar situation on your own.
Thank you so much for your interest in our fledgling project.
You’ll be hearing from us again soon.
If you would like to give us some feedback on what you have noticed about us so far, or tell us about how dementia has touched your life or if you have any questions, please hit Reply and I will look forward to hearing from you.
